Saskatchewan Safe Schools Plan

Saskatchewan Schools Start Delayed to September 8th

August 15,2020

Premier Scott Moe has announced a later start date to the school year.

"Students will begin classes on the Tuesday after Labour Day, September 8. This is a few days later than students would normally return to class, but it will provide teachers and school staff a few additional days to prepare the classrooms and common areas for a safe return."

School divisions would provide more information on their individual school plan before August 26.

A new testing strategy will also be released focusing on voluntary testing for teachers and students.

"On Monday I will be joined by Dr Shahab to announce a number of measures that will provide more information, time, testing capacity, and resources to ensure a safe return to school for all Saskatchewan students. That's why we will be providing an additional $40 million so that our classrooms, our students, and our staff are kept safe."

"We have increased our COVID testing capacity now to 3,000 tests per day, and that will be further increased to 4,000 tests per day by early September to ensure that any Saskatchewan resident who wants to be tested can be tested"

"I'm looking forward to providing a bit more information and answering questions on this on Monday, but for now, I want you to know that I've heard your concerns. I want you to know that we are acting by providing more information, more time, more testing capacity, and more resources to ensure a safe return to school this September."
